We need to start getting in quite a bit of training as there is just over a month now till the bike ride on the 25th July!
So I’ve had this route planned for half a year now. We didn’t go quite according to the route I had planned. Made a few mistakes that added about 2 miles to the original and even ended up cycling down the A507(!) which wasn’t fun, but all cars that passed did so at a good distance.
So here is the final route we took (roughly – as Google maps doesn’t seem to know the bit at the edge of Letchworth and the bit in Ashwell). We went Langford, Shefford, Shillington way, not the way google maps shows as arrows. Total mileage was 31.4 miles
We stopped for lunch in Ickleford at the Old George Inn which was very nice, but a big mistake as we cooled down too much and found the next section through Letchworth, Baldock and in to Ashwell, very hard going. So we learnt a lot from the ride: Don’t eat lunch, take jelly babies and pretzels, take lots of water and make sure to refill it at every stop and don’t stop for longer than 5 minutes.
My next ride will be on Tuesday 22nd as its bike to work day in Stevenage and its another good excuse to get some training in.
